Generative Deep Learning with BioNeMo for Protein Therapeutics

Evozyne is an emerging biotechnology company combining deep learning and the principles of evolution to design novel proteins. Evozyne is focused on solving critical challenges in therapeutics and sustainability by integrating computation and experimentation for molecular discovery. Large language models (LLM) have revolutionized our ability to learn accurate and predictive protein sequence-to-function relationships without the constraint of multiple sequence alignments or the restriction to homologous protein families. Evozyne and NVIDIA have partnered to integrate transformers with variational autoencoders (VAEs) in BioNeMo to establish the ProTVAE model that exploits a general transformer trained on large protein databases with a fine-tuned, family-specific VAE that furnishes a smooth, low-dimensional latent space for novel sequence generation along functional gradients. Enabled by NVIDIA libraries and hardware, Evozyne's ProtTVAE is a potentially fruitful route to efficient realization of clinical candidates.
