GPUs have revolutionized ground-based computational astronomy! Learn how each NVIDIA GPU generation helped astronomers raise the bar by delivering energy-efficient compute capabilities, meeting the real-time computational challenges, and facilitating the deployment of new complex observational instruments. We'll review the progress made in the adaptive optics community by adopting accelerated computing in overall workflows. We'll present the latest results of hard and soft real-time matrix computations using algebraic compression and mixed precisions on NVIDIA A100/H100 GPU accelerators. Then we'll anticipate upcoming challenges as astronomers prepare to operate the biggest eye on the sky, delivering up to 25x more complexity than current telescopes.
