Quantum computer simulators are important tools to test and validate quantum hardware as different solutions emerge to make quantum computers a reality. Large-scale simulation of quantum systems enables researchers to debug and optimize their applications for deployment on quantum devices which will be available in the future.
In the near term, research in quantum algorithms and applications is paramount for enabling quantum advantage on the quantum processors (with order of hundreds of qubits) that are available today. GPU-accelerated platforms can meet this challenge by providing flexible high-performance simulators for verifying and benchmarking quantum circuits to be implemented on real hardware. This panel will discuss the role of GPUs in quantum computing and identify the needed ecosystem extensions.
