At a time when energy systems are under pressure and managing energy consumption is central to climate targets, the rise of generative AI has sparked concern about how much electricity AI systems use. We'll consider the data behind these concerns, and ask whether advances in the efficiency of AI technology can deliver sustainable innovation. We'll also consider the role of regulators in ensuring that the implementation of AI is aligned with climate and energy policy.
