Accelerating Industrial Automation: Bringing AI to Functional Safety
, Vice President of Industry Safety, NVIDIA
Functional safety has been around for years, defining a process that ensures machine safety functions work correctly, or that they can fail in a safe manner. With the rise of industry 4.0, automation, and robotics, today’s factories increasingly have more electronically controlled equipment as well as autonomous machines that must work side by side with humans. Because of this, there is an growing need to understand how we combine AI, edge computing, and functional safety principles to build factories of the future with the highest safety standards. We'll cover: • How functional safety has already been implemented in areas like self-driving cars and what lessons we can bring to industrial automation; • The role of edge computing for real-time inference, enabling both preventive and proactive safety; and • The importance of bringing safety verification and certification into simulation and digital twins • How new NVIDIA IGX helps organizations add proactive safety in their environment
