DLSS 4.5 Ray Reconstruction Available Now, CONTROL Resonant and 007 First Light with Path Tracing, RTX Mega Geometry in Gears of War: E-Day, and New RTX and ACE Games

Gamescom, the world’s largest consumer and industry games event, with hundreds of thousands of gamers, kicks-off tomorrow. NVIDIA will be at the expo, showing developers our latest innovations, and working with our partners to power RTX games on the show floor, unveil new DLSS and RTX integrations, and to make new announcements about upcoming, anticipated titles.

DLSS Ray Reconstruction is a neural rendering technique for all GeForce RTX GPUs that improves image quality for ray-traced and path-traced scenes. Replacing traditional hand-tuned denoisers, it uses an NVIDIA supercomputer-trained AI network to generate higher-quality pixels in the noisy parts of a ray traced frame where rays were not sampled. The model unifies denoising and Super Resolution into a single model, intelligently analyzing temporal and spatial engine data to reconstruct sharper, more stable, and higher-fidelity high-resolution images.

DLSS 4.5 Ray Reconstruction features a new 2nd generation transformer model to deliver even better image quality in ray-traced and path-traced games. It is available now via a new NVIDIA app update, introducing several major improvements:

• Efficient Denoiser: The new model delivers 35% more compute capability, and processes 20% more parameters, while maintaining similar performance to the previous model
• Enhanced Super Resolution: Building upon the advances from DLSS 4.5 Super Resolution, the model has deeper spatial awareness across every scene, and more intelligently uses game engine pixel sampling and motion data. The result is improved lighting accuracy, better temporal stability and clearer motion in ray-traced and path-traced content
• Expanded Training Dataset: Trained on a larger dataset, the new model is even better at image reconstruction. This intelligence gives the model even better awareness to pick the most accurate engine data to reconstruct scenes closer to ground truth
• Finer Developer Control: The new model provides developers with finer control for temporal accumulation, providing precise tuning of model response for even better image quality

With the release of DLSS 4.5 Ray Reconstruction, our entire suite of DLSS technologies has been enhanced and updated, giving GeForce RTX gamers a superior experience in thousands of games and apps.

DLSS Ray Reconstruction’s improvements are readily apparent in a number of games. In Indiana Jones and the Great Circle™, the new model delivers cleaner particle effects with virtually no snow ghosting:

In PRAGMATA™, lighting responsiveness from laser effects is significantly improved, along with reduced residual artifacts after the laser is disabled:

And in Alan Wake 2, the CRT television scene preserves the fine individual lines of static white noise with greater clarity and stability:

To upgrade your system with DLSS 4.5 Ray Reconstruction, go to Settings > About in the NVIDIA app and opt in to Early Access releases (an official release will follow in September). Note, GeForce Game Ready Driver 580.88 WHQL, or newer is required.

Once installed:

• Open the “Graphics” section and select a supported game (alternatively, select “Global Settings” at the top of the window and apply the updated Ray Reconstruction to every supported game in your library)
• Scroll to “Driver Settings”
• Click “DLSS Override - Model Presets”
• Click “Custom”
• Open the “Ray Reconstruction” drop-down and choose “Recommended” or “Preset F”
• Click “Apply”

Developers are also bringing DLSS 4.5 Ray Reconstruction to their games via official updates. Ensure you check out our weekly DLSS articles to hear about the release of these updates, and to learn about the integration of DLSS to many more games.

Previously, we announced that Gears of War: E-Day will ship on October 6th with DLSS 4.5, ray tracing, and NVIDIA Reflex, enabling all GeForce RTX players to accelerate and enhance the eagerly-anticipated title. Now, we’re revealing that NVIDIA RTX Mega Geometry will also be available, enhancing the ray tracing of Unreal Engine 5’s Nanite virtualized geometry system.

Nanite enables seamless, automatic level of detail scaling for game elements, allowing developers to create cities filled with unique geometry, environments with unique terrain and mountains, and forests full of thick foliage and thousands of trees.

However, when used in conjunction with Unreal Engine 5’s ray tracing, Nanite game elements switch to a single, static low-detail mesh for ray tracing, since it's prohibitively expensive to build acceleration structures and ray trace Nanite game elements with existing DXR 1.2 and Vulkan APIs. For the player, the game element will appear to be rendering at full detail, but the ray-traced shadow or reflection will use the low detail mesh, causing visual discontinuities and artifacts.

After 6 years of research and development, NVIDIA’s engineers have solved this problem and delivered the innovations as part of RTX Mega Geometry. These will debut in Gears of War: E-Day on October 6th, and be later adopted by Microsoft’s DirectX Raytracing 2.0 standard (DXR 2.0), codifying this advancement for the entire game industry, and making ray-traced Nanite possible in all Unreal Engine 5 games.

The example below shows a visualization of the ray tracing scene in the parking lot of the Pay N' Save. With RTX Mega Geometry enabled, more objects are ray-traced and each object has substantially more geometry. Notice the improved vehicles, the complex spokes of the shopping cart, and the increased geometric detail even on small objects such as fruit, leaves, rocks, cups, and soda cans.

The scene's Nanite elements are represented at full detail with ray tracing when RTX Mega Geometry is enabled, allowing for accurate shadowing on larger game elements, and the rendering of accurate ray-traced shadows on rocks and debris, which was otherwise incorrect or missing.

Ray-traced reflections also benefit, now reflecting the full detail Nanite geometry instead of the simplified mesh, enhancing image quality. The visualization below shows how the ray tracing scene is substantially more detailed with RTX Mega Geometry enabled.

Beyond the benefits seen in static screenshots, gameplay is further improved, as ray-traced shadows and reflections could flicker or otherwise artifact when the player or camera were in motion.

DLSS Super Resolution and Dynamic Multi Frame Generation will multiply frame rates, while also increasing image quality.

NVIDIA Reflex will reduce PC latency, making gameplay even more responsive, and possibly giving you a competitive edge in Versus.

And the Ray Tracing cores found in all GeForce RTX GPUs will accelerate the rendering of Unreal Engine 5.8’s Lumen and MegaLights ray tracing technologies.

AION 2 is a next-generation MMORPG developed by NC, reimagining the original AION universe with a fresh approach. Step into the gritty world of Beautiful Light, a PvPvPvE extraction shooter developed by independent studio, Deep Worlds. As a member of the Quick Reaction Force, you are adventuring, with up to two other teammates, into an hostile zone with the goal to extract precious artifacts before anyone else.
